Madras High Court Acting Boss Equity T Raja resigned from administration on Wednesday as a “cheerful and completely fulfilled” man.
Equity Raja resigned while the High Court Collegium’s rehashed proposals to move him to the Rajasthan High Court still needed to be advised by the local government.
Interestingly, Justice Raja said in his speech on Wednesday at the Madras High Court’s farewell ceremony that it was pointless to question judges’ transfer orders because it was just part of the job.
“In help regulation, at whatever point anybody is testing the legitimacy of an exchange order…when somebody from Calcutta is moved to Madras, from Madras to Kashmir, Assam, and other places…normally, we as judges say an exchange request is only an episode of administration. Only one of the states of this work. Hence, when the request comes, you need to go,” ACJ Raja said.In addition, the judge related a story about when he was a lawyer and went to brief Senior Advocate Harish Salve on a case.
“I went with R Shunmugasundaram, the current Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, and another important person to brief Harish Salve on a matter. He did not even provide us with water or coffee. “Therefore, after observing their (senior lawyers) behavior with their juniors or with judges, I have learned some things,” he stated. “A lawyer who was adjudged to be one of the highest tax paying lawyers, one who has paid 100 crores in a year, an amount even higher than that paid by superstar Amitabh Bachchan.”
During the event, Justice Raja advised young lawyers to keep learning, improve their spoken English, remember case laws, and stay grounded.
“You must learn the art of patience, persuasion, and humility in order to become legendary lawyers like Palkhiwala, HM Seervai, and others. You additionally need to further develop your English language abilities. You might be required to appear before the Supreme Court or other high courts in other states. You will meet attorneys from various states there. As a result, you are required to speak English correctly, “Justice Raja stated.
He recalled how, during his time as a lawyer and on the Bench, he had a lot to learn from colleagues and senior lawyers. He stated that while some individuals displayed humility and kindness, others did not.
“I imitated the people who were so great at their positions but, kind and humble. “Imitating or learning from our elders is perfectly acceptable,” he stated.
A fair outcome Raja given as an appointed authority of the Madras High Court for quite some time and as acting Boss Equity of the Court for quite some time.
