  • An American citizen filed the petition in Supreme Court of India seeking asylum in India. He claimed that he have discovered alternative to petroleum and he feared of prosecution if he returned to America.
  • The matter was presented before vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. Claude David Convisser, the petitioner, had personally appeared before the court. The last time, the Court told Additional Solicitor General Vikramjit Banerjee to seek guidance from the Union Government without issuing a notice.
  • Additional Solicitor General Vikramjit Banerjee informed the Bench of the petitioner’s visa is set to expire on  December 9, 2024, and added: It doesn’t expire tomorrow, but he can’t stay at one location for 180 days, so he’ll need to leave and return to the next nation. I therefore cannot advise him on which country to go.
  •  The petitioner raised apprehensions that there are chances that he might get imprisoned or killed in case if he leaves india.
  •  When the Bench asked whether he is facing any prosecution in America the answer was in negative. But the Court made it plain that the US government would handle the same when the petitioner expressed concerns once more. Further it is told to the petitioner that courts exist in the United States. The Court denied the petition on this basis.
  • Court dismissed the petition saying “we are not here to take care of you, your government will take care of you.”
