An invitation to tender was sent by the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday inviting applications for use of Artificial Intelligence’s automated translation tools in court hearings and proceedings. According to the bid document released by the Court, companies eligible to apply must either be incorporated under a government entity or Companies Act. Additionally, they should have a demonstrated track record of at least two years in delivering similar systems at a national or global level.

It added that AI generated transcriptions, which retain integrity and safety of data as they are maintained according to industry standards, should be available in file formats readily accessible on widely used operating systems for computers and electronics devices.

The Supreme Court has started a trial run of live transcription of court proceedings using artificial intelligence during the recent hearing of the Constitution bench in the Maharashtra politics case[1]. TERES, the company that provides arbitration practitioners with this facility, carried out a transcription service[2].
