The Prime Minister of Israel, Netanyahu, has issued a warning about a potentially lengthy and challenging conflict. The death toll in Gaza has now tragically reached 313.

On October 8th, Hamas militants broke out of the blockaded Gaza Strip and attacked nearby Israeli communities, taking captives and causing destruction. Israeli soldiers fought back, and Israel retaliated with air strikes that leveled buildings in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel was “at war,” and called for a mass mobilization of army reserves. The attack, which killed at least 300 Israelis, was an unprecedented, multifront assault by Hamas, firing thousands of rockets and infiltrating the heavily fortified border in several locations. Israeli leaders have discussed forming an emergency national unity government to handle the complex situation. The death toll in the Gaza Strip rose to 313, with 1,990 people wounded. The peace process between Israel and the Palestinians has been dead for years, and tensions have been escalating due to Israel’s far-right government ramping up settlement construction in the occupied West Bank and Israeli settler violence.

In the midst of the conflict, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muralidharan urged stranded Indians in Israel to stay safe and contact the Indian embassy if they require any assistance. The embassy has already issued an advisory for Indians to stay safe, and they will extend all sorts of assistance to those who need it.
