The Supreme Court of India is about to undergo a significant technical transition, signaling the end of the paper age in courtrooms in a ground-breaking step. Modern, cutting-edge technology will be brought to the court on July 3, ushering in a new era of ease and efficiency.

The changes, which have been led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, are meant to modernize and streamline the judicial procedure.

The implementation of a paperless system will be one of the biggest shifts. Physical copies of papers will be replaced by pop-up displays, giving judges a digital interface to view case files and pertinent data. A digital library will also take the role of conventional law-related literature, enabling rapid and easy access to legal resources.[1]

With the intention of progressively introducing the technology to additional courtrooms, the modernization efforts will at first focus on courts 1, 2, and 3. To make the new systems work well, certain adjustments will be required to the furniture arrangement. Additionally, smaller, more effective fans will replace the older, bulkier ones, enhancing the courtroom’s overall atmosphere. Beyond digitizing records and hearings, Chief Justice Chandrachud’s ambition for a technologically advanced court goes further. Lawyers will be compelled to provide the court staff early notice of any pertinent judgments they plan to cite. The efficiency and precision of legal procedures will be improved by the ability to search these decisions online and exchange them in real time with the judges. The courtrooms will also get brand-new display boards with extra features, which will make the space more vibrant and engaging.
