The Supreme Court’s executive branch said in a statement that nine universal toilets will be built at various locations in the main court building and additional building complex . Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud ( CJI ) said , paved the way for Supreme Court reforms to include the LGBTQIA + community .
This is not the only move the Supreme Court has made . Lawyers ‘ online court confirmation portal , launched last year , is also gender – neutral , as ” court documents ” have been updated to include an additional line where the lawyer’s words can be added .
The Court is also seriously considering the proposal to rename the Stress and Internal Complaints Committee to the Gender and Sexuality Commission and the Internal Complaints Committee .
Senior Attorney Menaka Guruswami , a member of the LGBTQIA + community , was nominated to the committee to ensure representation in the Supreme Court .
Rohin Bhatt , a self – described queer non binary lawyer , wrote a letter to Justice Hime Kohli , Supreme Court Chairperson on Gender Sensitization and Internal Grievances , with many demands on the LGBTQIA + community .
He asked the Supreme Court to provide for ” housing integration , ” which unquestionably requires a bathroom in every apartment . More importantly , it has called for ” representative representation ” of the Convention and has broadened its path to ” transgender and sexuality and group internal complaints ” through ” gender reassignment and internal complaints ” .
Last month , the court ordered a special constitutional committee of five judges to review a number of petitions involving same – sex marriage .
