Iran uses smart cameras to identify and penalise violaters of the Hijab Law

Last year after the death of Kurdish-Iranian woman Mahsa Amini in moral police custody, a wave of protest began in the country and worldwide criticism of the incident was recorded. The Govt. retaliated adversely to this whole situation. Protests and public opinion were thwarted and women were penalised for not wearing the Hijab properly.

The official notice issued by the Iranian Authority recently said that Smart AI-enabled cameras would be used to identify the persons violating the Hijab Law and public spaces, first-time offenders would be issued a legal notice, but repetitive violations would lead to penal actions and cases would move to court.

For cars in which the passengers seem to violate the law a notice would be served if the offender makes the same mistake, and then the car would be seized. This Draconian law is imposed on the people in face of adhering to the values and image of the country.

Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei commented, “The issue of the hijab is a legal Sharia restriction. It’s not a Government restriction. It is legal and religious. Unveiling the hijab is forbidden in Sharia.”. The Islamic belief and its practice are prevalent in many countries but Iran imposing the strict practice onto people especially women is being criticized by many human rights organisations.

The Hijab Law is a much-debated matter in the global forum, people have expressed different opinions related to various practices of religion and the right to practice the religion, there is a clear distinction, the orthodox regulations violating the right basic human rights in the name of religious practice. So this intervention of technological advancement to restrict a medieval practice is being criticized golbally.
