In light of the planned settlement, the Bombay High Court requests that Nawazuddin Siddiqui's brother remove any allegedly defamatory information.

In light of the possibility of a settlement between the brothers, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the brother of Nawazuddin Siddiqui to remove any alleged defamatory content posted about the actor.

Justice RI Chagla guided the siblings to stay present in his chambers alongside their lawyers on May 3, 2023 to find a chance of settlement of their dispute.

The actor claimed in the defamation suit he filed through Advocate Sunil Kumar that his brother Shamsuddin and his ex-wife Anjana Pandey, also known as Zainab Siddiqui, had made false statements about him.

Siddiqui’s Advocate, Abhinav Chandrachud, argued that no specific relief was sought against Pandey because his client and Pandey were engaged in settlement talks.

Shamsuddin’s Advocate, Rumi Mirza, asked Justice Chagla to use his good offices to settle the brothers’ case.

While Chandrachud appreciated the concept, he pointed out that his brother’s social media posts contained the accusations made against his client. Chandrachud pleaded with the Court to order Shamsuddin to remove the comments he had already posted and to prevent him from posting any more defamatory material.

Mirza went on to say that the actor had made remarks about the brother as well, so he should also refrain from tweeting.

Chandrachud opposed this, arguing that the brother could not seek relief in Siddiqui’s lawsuit for defamation without presenting even one post to support the claim. He told the Court that Siddiqui had never published anything that slandered his brother.

In order to maintain fairness, Justice Chagla at this point asked both parties to refrain from making disparaging remarks about one another.

“In light of the possibility of an amicable settlement, there will be no posts against one another and no accusations leveled against the other. It is to keep up with value between parties so there could be no further posts against one another,” the Court said.

The Court also recorded Mirza’s declaration that his client will not publish any additional tweets that are alleged to be defamatory.

Siddiqui filed a defamation lawsuit in March and sought 100 crore rupees in compensation from his brother and ex-wife.

Additionally, he prayed for an injunction against the two to prevent them from making defamatory statements about him in public or in the media.

In addition, the actor demanded a public apology from his estranged wife and brother for the defamatory remarks they had made about him.
