About the Organization

The foundation of The Phoenix Mills Ltd. was laid by the young visionary Mr. Ramnarayan Ruia in the year 1905 when Phoenix commenced operations as a textile manufacturing company. In 1959, Phoenix was listed on the BSE & in 1986, 2 prime commercial centers, Phoenix House and Phoenix Center with a total area spread over 350 thousand sq. ft. became operational. Followed by the success of these commercial projects, High Street Phoenix (HSP) was launched in 1987, as the flagship consumption center housing retail, entertainment, residential, and office complexes.

About the Job

  • Lead the Legal function for a project/center by identifying, anticipating and mitigating legal risk; providing legal support to the senior management from the project concept stage to operations.
  • Own the contract negotiation/administration processes and associated documentation.
  • Ensure total compliance with applicable laws, legislations and statutory requirements;

Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the projects maintain a strong and consistent legal compliance record and also are completed and operated as per statutory/regulatory norms and no penalty clauses are invoked against the Company.
  • Ensure and oversee timely submission of relevant documents and returns to external stakeholders / regulatory authorities and represent the company for resolution of any legal issue or escalation.
  • Ensures that the negotiations with contractors/vendors/clients are carried out smoothly and if required get involved into resolution of any disputes/litigations.
  • Ensure due diligence is carried out to prove clear title in case of land acquisition, participate in negotiations and drive timely documentation and closure.
  • Drive the legal negotiations personally with key clients like anchors/national clients alongwith Director/VP- Leasing and ensure that his team takes care of the legal negotiations with other mini anchors. 
  • Drafting of various agreements like Leave & License, Lease, Franchisee, CAM agreements, etc.
  • Represent the Company before various regulatory authorities/Courts of law for resolution of any legal issues.
  • Ensure effective litigation management of all cases –identification, appointment and management of external litigation partners, filing of cases and monitoring their progress, and provide timely updates to the business leadership.
  • Ensure timely goal setting, monitoring, review of performance parameters and feedback to team members.
  • Ensure safe and custody of all original documents by the respective legal teams.
  • Ensure effective litigation management of all cases –identification, appointment and management of external litigation partners, filing of cases and monitoring their progress, and provide timely updates to the business leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal administration, especially contract related matters.
  • In-depth understanding of the development / construction business in the retail and hospitality sectors.
  • Drafting agreements like Development, Sale, Lease, Leave & License etc.
  • Statutory/ Regulatory Compliance Management.
  • Knowledge of leasing administration process.
  • Negotiation skills.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduate / Post Graduate in Law from a reputed institute
  • Qualified Solicitor
  • 13 – 15 years of total experience in a leading law firm.
  • Should have an  Advanced knowledge of legal administration, especially contract/leasing-related matters
  • Should have an exposure of drafting Corporate Agreements like MOUs, LOIs, SHAs, SPAs, JVs, and Business Agreements like Development, Sale, Lease, and Leave & License, etc.
  • Understanding of  Statutory/ Regulatory Compliance Management
