The direction has come from the High Court of Delhi to the filmmakers of ‘Jailer’ movie that they need to ensure that 1st of September 2023 onwards, to not depict the scene where a contract killer is shown wearing the jersey of Royal Challengers Bangalore (an IPL team) while screening the movie in theatres. Justice Pratibha Singh heard the present case where the filmmakers were alleged by the Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited for using the jersey of the said IPL team in a defamatory manner.
It was supposed that the said killer in one of the scenes of the movie has reportedly made misogynistic and disparaging statements referring a woman while wearing the team’s jersey and thus, the IPL team has contested against the filmmakers for negatively depicting the jersey in an indirect manner without their permission thereby damaging the brand’s image and equity.
However, post-filing of the suit, the parties from both side decided to resolve the disputes between them and agreed that the scenes displaying the team jersey would be altered by removing the branding elements and primary color of the jersey making it non-identifiable as the jersey of RCB. As the movie has already been released prior to the agreement, the alteration would be prevalent September 1 onwards. Justice Singh declared that the parties are bound by the agreement and the altered version of the movie shall be released on satellite, TV, or any OTT. The suit by the said IPL team was settled on first listing and the refund of court fee to the plaintiff has been ordered by the court.
