The Chennai High Court has sentenced one of the renowned actresses of Bollywood a punishment of imprisonment for a period of 6 months. This incident took place when the actress was accused of the non-payment of the ESI (Employee State Insurance) amount to the state insurance corporation.

The matter states that Jayaprada was an owner of the Jaya Prada cinema along with her brother Ram Kumar and Raj Babu for a period of 10 years. She was also a Member of Parliament and she has been charged under section 40 of Employees State Insurance Corporation and the section states that the  Principal employer has to contribute the share of the employer and the principal employer is entitled to recover their hold in the wages that have a raised from their work for that organization.

The court observed that Jayaprada has not paid the workers their hard earn money and they have been facing issues about the same the Jaya Prada organization has violated the norms of ESI as it is a socio-economic organization that has been working for the societal benefits only. The order about the matter has been passed by the Chennai court of law by the Metropolitan Magistrate.
