A Patna court on Friday guided Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on April 12 in a 2019 defamation case filed against him by Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi for his “all thieves have Modi surname” comment, Hindustan Times revealed.
During a political campaign in Kolar, Gandhi had connected PM Narendra Modi with criminals like Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi.
He had said,
“Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi. Why every one of the criminals have ‘Modi’ as a typical family name?”
Sushil Kumar Modi had in this manner recorded a suit for Gandhi’s questionable comments on ‘Modi last name’. However, the Congress leader was conceded bail in this defamation case on July 6, 2019.
In a video shared on his Twitter page, BJP leader expressed,
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, with his comment made during the 2019 Lok Sabha election that every one of those having Modi family name are criminals, in Kolar in Karnataka, offended. In reverse, Class individuals like me, and I had documented a defamation petition against him at the court of Patna’s Chief Judicial Magistrate. Presently the MP/MLA Court has given summons to him to show up before it to record his statement.”
The improvement follows Gandhi’s conviction by a Surat court in a comparable case. The Congress chief was punished with two years in prison, which prompted his exclusion as an Member of Parliament (MP) of the Lok Sabha.
All things considered, the court conceded Gandhi bail and suspended his sentence to enable him to file an appeal.
That case was recorded by Purnesh Modi, a previous BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), who protested a similar comment made at the Kolar rally
