A murder convict is allowed by the Kerala High Court to get admission in law course

In a case, Pattakka Suresh Babu v. State of Kerala, the Kerala high Court allowed a murder convict to complete his admission process by online mode in the LLB course. The convict Pattakka Suresh Babu has served five years of imprisonment and is serving his remaining sentence at the open prison and correctional home at Kannur. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment under section 143, 148, 302, 307 and 341 IPC. 

As per section 307 IPC attempt to commit murder is a punishable offence where punishment is up to 10 years and if the act caused hurt to the person, then punishment may extend to life imprisonment. Section 302 IPC talks about the punishment for murder & 341 IPC prescribes punishment for wrongful restraint which is a Cognizable and bailable offence. 

Pattakka Suresh Babu is a graduate in Economics and has completed his MA in a distant education course in Sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University during his sentence. After that he cleared the law entrance exam of KMCT Law College and secured his admission. In this regard he moved the High Court seeking bail to complete his admission process and pursue his Law Course. The High Court allowed Babu to pursue his course online after consultation with the Controller of Examinations and the Principal of the college. After confirmation given by the college authorities to the court that the admission process can be done online, the court then directed the jail authorities to arrange the necessary arrangements required.
