The High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC), Meghalaya, functions under the aegis of the High Court of Meghalaya and the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority. It plays a crucial role in providing free and competent legal aid to eligible persons and ensuring access to justice under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

About the Job Opportunity

Applications are invited for empanelment of Lawyers as Legal Aid Counsels with the High Court Legal Services Committee, Shillong. The empanelment is for a period of three years and is subject to periodic performance reviews. Empanelled lawyers will represent litigants in need of legal assistance in matters before the High Court.

About Job Responsibilities:

• Represent legally aided clients before the High Court of Meghalaya
• Provide effective and timely legal representation
• Submit case status updates after each hearing or as directed
• Maintain integrity and adhere to the Legal Services Act and Rules
• Avoid collecting any remuneration from aided persons

Eligibility & Qualifications:

• Must have practiced as an Advocate in the High Court of Meghalaya for at least 3 years
• Must provide:
  • Self-attested copy of LLB Degree
  • Certificate of Enrolment issued by the State Bar Council
  • Certificate of Practice from the High Court Bar Association
• Must not have any criminal or disciplinary proceedings pending before any Bar Council or Court of Law
• Must affix and sign across a recent passport-sized photograph on the application
