About the Competition

The Surana & Surana & Shaastra IIT Madras Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition has been envisaged to create opportunities for learning the development of jurisprudence on emerging trends in Intellectual Property Law besides developing cutting-edge skills in research, writing and advocacy. Further, it is aimed at facilitating the evolution of IP Law through jurisprudential analysis of the existing law and the consequential emergence of new laws.

General Details

The 7th Surana & Surana & Shaastra IIT Madras, Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition shall be held from 5th to 7th January 2024 at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras Campus.

Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open only for students who are enrolled in an LLB three-year or five-year course during the current academic year. 16 teams will be selected based on their memorials for participation.

General Rules

Each team should consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances.
There shall be 2 speakers and 1 researcher designated for each team. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with prior permission of the National Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.
Each team will be provided with a team code during orientation. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.
The National Administrator for this competition will be The Head – Academic Initiatives, Surana & Surana International Attorneys.

Registration Details (With payment details)

Registration fee is Rs.2000 which does not include Accommodation and Shaastra Passport cost. Accommodation charges per person per day is Rs.700, apart from which individual participants have to pay for Shaastra Passport which costs Rs.400.
Online registrations are open from 28th November 2023. The teams must register online by 15th December 2023. Teams will have to register online at www.moot.in and send a soft copy of the registration form to mootcourt@shaastra.org. Teams will be registered on a first come first serve basis with a maximum of 24 teams.
Participants will receive an automated system-generated acknowledgement on successful submission of registration. Participants will receive approval as acceptance of their request for participation by 20th December 2023 or earlier.
