Vishnu Shankar joins the UK Information Commissioner’s Office as Head of Legal – Regulatory Enforcement in London
Vishnu Shankar is now a part of the UK Information Commissioner’s Office as Head of Legal – Regulatory Enforcement in London.
“I am Head of Legal – Regulatory Enforcement in the UK Information Commissioner’s Office in London.”
Shankar, prior hold the position of a TMT/Privacy/Cybersecurity Partner at Proskauer Rose LLP for nearly 2 years.
He has done his graduation from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. He earned his BCL from the University of Oxford in 2007 and an LLM from the Harvard Law School in 2008.
Shankar started his career as a judicial law clerk to Justice BN Srikrishna, Judge, Supreme Court of India. He further decided to move to the United Kingdom, and worked with Covington & Burling LLP.
In September 2015, he moved to Dublin to work with Mason Hayes & Curran for a year. He later moved back to UK to work with Sidley Austin LLP for close to 5 years.
Vishnu gave more emphasis over digital matters,”I focussed on technology, data privacy and cybersecurity law, and intellectual property transactional matters. I provided practical and strategic advice regarding the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), E-Privacy laws, the NIS Directive (Cybersecurity Directive), and international data transfers (including Schrems II compliance).”
He shared his work efforts with his clients and said, “I also helped clients with remediating high-stakes multi-jurisdictional cybersecurity breaches, and defending complex enforcement matters (including relating to algorithms).”
“After 15 years in Big Law, I am looking forward to enforcing the UK’s civil and criminal data privacy and cybersecurity laws, and advancing the public interest.”
