
• On Saturday, Ukraine’s security service announced that former President Petro Poroshenko was not allowed to leave the country for a scheduled meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Despite receiving permission from Parliament to leave the country, Poroshenko was turned away at the border due to martial law restrictions that prohibit Ukrainian men between 18 and 60 years of age from leaving the country The former president has been prohibited from departing Ukraine due to an alleged scheme to hold .
• Poroshenko, who described his encounter at the border as an “assault on unity,” has yet to provide a response regarding the accusation of planning a meeting with Orban.
• Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant faced a critical situation on Saturday, as it was unable to receive power from two of its connecting lines to the local energy grid. The country’s nuclear energy operator stated that the plant had to rely on diesel generators to prevent overheating until off-site power was restored by Kyiv.
• During the early stages of the war, Russia occupied the Zaporizhzhia plant, which has since become a major concern for international observers. Both Moscow and Kyiv have accused each other of shelling the plant.
• The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been closely monitoring the safety of the Zaporizhzhia plant, which ranks among the world’s top 10 largest nuclear power stations.
• Although the plant’s six reactors have been offline for several months, it still requires power and qualified personnel to operate essential cooling systems and other safety measures.
• In a separate incident, Russia reportedly launched 11 Iranian-made Shahed drones and one guided cruise missile into Ukraine overnight on Saturday. Ukrainian military officials stated that they successfully destroyed the missile and most of the drones using air defenses.
