The Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association on Thursday objected to the High Court Collegium’s most recent recommendations for the appointment of judges and passed a resolution calling for the elimination of the Collegium system because it fosters favoritism and arbitrary decision-making when it comes to the appointment of individuals to constitutional posts.
Following an extraordinary General Body meeting, association members expressed distress and serious dissatisfaction with the collegium of the Telangana High Court’s recommendations for the appointment of judges to the High Court, according to a press release issued by association president V Raghunath.
The press release noted that “several representations from the Bar Association members have been received criticising lack of fairness, openness, and social justice in the panel of names selected.”
According to the press release, the entire procedure was shrouded in secrecy and lacked transparency, impartiality, and concern for social justice.
The High Court Advocates’ Association General Body thereupon made the decision to urge that the suggestions be revoked and that fresh ideas be made to make it more inclusive while taking into account social justice, based on a collaborative process involving the Bar Association.
According to the press release, the General Body also decided to look into other options if the current proposal is not recalled.
