“Supreme Court Grants Interim Anticipatory Bail to Muslim Doctor Accused of Rape till the next hearing “
The Supreme Court has granted interim protection to a Muslim doctor who is accused of raping a Hindu woman on the pretext of marriage. The court sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh government and directed the accused not to enter Muradabad, where the case was filed, until the next date of hearing.
The accused, Dr Abdul Qadir, allegedly established sexual relations with the woman under the false promise of marriage. The woman’s counsel argued that it was a case of “love jihad” and expressed concerns for her safety. The court granted interim protection to the accused and issued notice for further proceedings.
The doctor had approached the court after the Allahabad High Court denied him anticipatory bail. The petition claimed that the complainant’s lawyer was the mastermind behind the conspiracy and had extorted money from the accused.
The plea also stated that the parties were in a consensual live-in relationship and the rape allegations were false.
