New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined to list a plea by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking a seven-day extension of his interim bail in the Delhi liquor policy case. The decision was based on the grounds that Kejriwal had the option to seek regular bail from the trial court, rendering the current application unsustainable. Moreover, the judgment regarding the challenge to his arrest is already reserved, making the extension request irrelevant to the main petition.

Earlier, on May 10, a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had granted interim bail to Kejriwal, who was in judicial custody over the liquor policy case, until June 1.

Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, had requested the extension, citing the need to undergo diagnostic tests, including a PET-CT scan, and sought an additional seven days of relief. On Tuesday, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi presented Kejriwal’s application to a bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan. Justice Maheshwari noted that the matter had already been heard and the judgment reserved, thus directing that the memo be presented to the Chief Justice of India for an appropriate order.

According to the interim order from May 10, Kejriwal is required to surrender on June 2.
