The existing five-judge collegium system of the Supreme Court has underwent a change this summer vacation with the retirement of two justices, Justice K M Joseph & Justice Ajay Rastogi. The new two justices appointed as new members of the five bench collegium are Justice B R Gawai & Justice Suryakant.
This collegium system send or recommends names for the appointment of judges of the Supreme Court. The other collegium system members are – Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul & Justice Sanjeev Khanna.
The recommendations for the High Court judges are made by a three member collegium system which comprises of the Chief Justice of India and next two senior judges. Now after the retirement of K M Joseph, Sanjeev Khanna has now became a member of the three bench collegium system.
After completing it’s vacation, the Supreme Court will reopen on 3rd of July.
