The wife of mobster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva will argue before the Supreme Court that she should be allowed to attend her husband’s funeral. Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva, a supporter of Mukhtar Ansari, was fatally shot on June 7 as he entered a court in Lucknow.

Payal Maheshwari, the wife of Sanjeev Jeeva, went before the Supreme Court on Thursday to ask for temporary protection from arrest so that she may attend her husband’s funeral. She also expressed her fear of being killed herself.

Payal has also been charged with violating the Gangster Act, and in her court filing, she requested temporary release from arrest for one day so that she and her children may attend their father’s funeral services in Muzaffarnagar. The case will be heard on June 9 by a Supreme Court panel comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and Rajesh Bindal, according to their announcement.

Garima Prasad, the Additional Advocate General (AAG), informed the bench that Payal might attend Sanjeev Jeeva’s funeral and that the state was not opposing the request on the basis of humanitarian concerns. The court has now instructed Payal’s attorney to submit an application and an affidavit on her behalf outlining the new details of the case about her husband’s passing.
