“Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud to Head New Supreme Court Constitution Bench, Set to Hear Four Cases Commencing on July 12th”

The Bench, in addition to the CJI, will consist of

  1. Justices Hrishikesh Roy,
  2. PS Narasimha,
  3. Pankaj Mithal,
  4. and Manoj Misra.

The Bench is scheduled to hear the following cases:

  1. Tej Prakash Pathak and ors v. Rajasthan High Court and ors

“In this case, the Supreme Court will address the issue of whether state authorities can modify eligibility criteria once a selection process has commenced.

In simpler terms, the key question revolves around whether the criteria for appointment to a position can be changed by the relevant authorities during or after the selection process has already begun.”

  • Central Organisation for Railway Electrification v. M/s ECI SPIC SMO MCML (JV) A Joint Venture Company

“The case involves the following legal questions:

1. Can courts deviate from the agreed procedure for appointing arbitrators in an application under Section 11 of the Arbitration Act?

2. Are retired employees disqualified from acting as arbitrators in cases involving their former employers?”

  • M/s Bajaj Alliance General Insurance Co Ltd v. Rambha Devi & Ors

“Is a person with a driving license for a ‘light motor vehicle’ allowed to drive a ‘transport vehicle of light motor vehicle class’ with an unladen weight of no more than 7500 kg, based solely on that license?

This question was referred due to discrepancies in eligibility requirements for obtaining a license under these two categories, as outlined in different provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.”

  • JSW Steel Limited v. South Western Railway & Anr

The issue in this case is:

Can a person who is themselves ineligible to be an arbitrator appoint an arbitrator?”
