The Centre for Consumer Research and Policy at NUSRL, Ranchi, is organizing the National Moot Court Competition on “Consumer Protection Laws”, 2024 under the aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. This competition offers a unique platform for law students to engage with complex legal challenges related to consumer protection, ranging from e-commerce regulations to product defects and unfair trade practices.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY 

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) was established by an Act of the State Legislature, inspired by the vision of India’s constitutional forefathers. They recognized that law, legal systems, and legal institutions play a pivotal role in shaping the human, social, political, and economic development of the nation. Law, as a social process with a profound influence on societal dynamics, serves as the backbone for the healthy growth of democracy and the rule of law.

ABOUT THE MINISTRY

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, established in 1986, safeguards consumer rights by ensuring access to safe, reliable, and affordable goods and services. It collaborates with state governments, regulatory bodies, and industry associations to promote consumer welfare and create a robust regulatory framework. The ministry’s mission focuses on consumer education, awareness, and protection, empowering consumers in a dynamic marketplace.

ABOUT THE CENTRE

The Centre for Consumer Research and Policy (CCRP) at NUSRL, Ranchi, under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, focuses on protecting consumer rights through awareness, grievance redressal, and stakeholder engagement. Its mission is to empower consumers by enhancing protection against unfair trade practices and promoting effective redressal mechanisms. The Centre aims to foster research, teaching, and training in consumer law across various sectors, in line with the objectives of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The National Moot Court Competition on “Consumer Protection Laws”, 2024 offers law students a platform to explore key consumer law issues like unfair trade practices, e-commerce regulation, and dispute resolution. It challenges participants to address real-world legal problems through in-depth research, written submissions, and oral advocacy, focusing on consumer rights and corporate interests. This competition enhances participants’ legal reasoning, research, and advocacy skills, preparing them for contemporary legal challenges. It promotes academic excellence, critical thinking, and professional growth among law students nationwide.
