On Tuesday the high Court of Madras asked the State government if the piece of land located right in front of the Court’s Madurai Bench can be taken on lease immediately. Justices G. Jayachandran and K.K Ramakrishnan have said that government could consider it in the interregnum.

The land belongs to the Kothananda Ramaswamy Temple at Othakodai in Madurai. The Court has asked for the land to expand the court area to form a new car parking space and more additional buildings for the bench.

The issue has been decided to be discussed with the Religious and Charitable Endowments (Courts) Department. The hearing on the matter has been adjourned by the court till July 6.
