The use of autonomous robots in manufacturing and logistics has transformed these industries by increasing efficiency and reducing human intervention. But as these systems become more widespread, complex legal challenges arise regarding liability for harm caused by private decisions. Traditional regulatory frameworks designed for human-controlled systems struggle to deal with the unique risks posed by autonomous robots. This article examines the current legal landscape, highlighting gaps in product liability, operator negligence and developer liability. It also explores future legal challenges, such as cyber security threats and ethical dilemmas, which will complicate liability issues as robots become more powerful. Finally, the document proposes some legal reforms, including the introduction of AI-specific legislation, a joint responsibility framework, the establishment of AI regulatory bodies and the introduction of ethical guidelines. The goal of these changes is to balance the need for technological innovation with the requirement to ensure responsibility when using autonomous robots.

In manufacturing, robots handle repetitive and hazardous tasks, minimizing workplace injuries and allowing human workers to focus on more complex and creative aspects of production. For instance, in automotive manufacturing, robots perform tasks ranging from welding and painting to assembly, ensuring consistency and quality. Similarly, in logistics, autonomous robots streamline warehouse operations by efficiently managing inventory, handling materials, and facilitating rapid order fulfillment. Companies like Amazon utilize fleets of AGVs to navigate large warehouses, enhancing the speed and accuracy of their distribution networks.
However, the increasing reliance on autonomous systems introduces a complex legal challenge: determining liability when robots cause harm or damage. Autonomous robots operate with a degree of decision-making that often removes direct human control, blurring the lines of accountability. Unlike traditional machinery, which requires constant human oversight, autonomous robots can execute tasks based on sophisticated algorithms, raising questions about who is at fault in case of malfunction or injury.
At the root of these legal questions is the question of whether current liability frameworks, designed for human-controlled or manual systems, can adequately address the problems arising from special technology. Creators, developers, managers and even robots themselves have different roles in the chain of responsibility, but the law is not clear where the ultimate responsibility lies.

In the manufacturing sector, robots have become important tools to perform tasks such as assembly, welding, painting and packaging with precision and speed. It is essential for performing repetitive and hazardous tasks, reducing the risk of personal injury and increasing the efficiency of production lines. Industrial robots can work continuously without fatigue, increasing productivity and making fewer mistakes compared to human workers. As manufacturers seek to improve manufacturing performance, robots offer an added advantage, allowing companies to quickly adjust operations to meet changing needs.
In logistics, robots play an important role in automating warehouse operations, increasing the speed and accuracy of goods transportation, inventory management and order fulfillment. Autonomous systems such as AGVs and drones are used to transport goods within warehouses and between facilities, reducing human intervention and the risk of error. Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) allow warehouses to maximize space utilization and optimize inventory changes, while minimizing human intervention in inventory management. In distribution centers, robots are responsible for picking, distributing and packing products, making them faster, more efficient and more cost-effective.
Despite these great advantages, the deployment of autonomous robots in manufacturing and logistics is not without its challenges. The increasing autonomy of these robots raises serious questions about liability in cases of wrongdoing, harm or accidents. However, questions were raised about the operator’s role in failing to properly implement security measures and the company’s responsibility to update and maintain systems. This case illustrates the joint obligations of manufacturers, operators, and employers to ensure the safe operation of autonomous robots.

Finally, updates should consider ethical guidelines for the development and deployment of autonomous robots.
