The 22nd Law Commission of India has opened the floor for public opinion and suggestions on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). In a public notice, the commission called for views from the general public, recognized religious organizations, and other stakeholders within a 30-day period. Interested parties can submit their feedback through a provided link or via email. The commission’s decision to seek fresh deliberations on the UCC comes after the 21st Law Commission previously examined the subject and received overwhelming responses from stakeholders. Due to the passage of over three years since the issuance of a consultation paper on “Reforms of Family Law” in 2018, the commission deemed it necessary to reexamine the subject in light of its significance and relevance, as well as recent court orders.

The aim of soliciting views and ideas from the public and recognized religious organizations is to gather a broad range of perspectives on the Uniform Civil Code. The Law Commission intends to consider the received responses, analyze the feasibility and implications of implementing a uniform civil code, and take into account legal, social, and cultural aspects associated with the matter. By inviting stakeholders to contribute their views and suggestions, the commission seeks to ensure comprehensive and inclusive deliberations. Interested individuals and organizations are encouraged to actively participate in this process and submit their views within the specified timeframe.

The public notice emphasizes the commission’s commitment to reexamining the subject matter of the Uniform Civil Code and highlights the importance of this undertaking in light of its legal and social implications. By engaging with diverse stakeholders, the Law Commission aims to gather valuable insights to inform its future recommendations and decisions regarding the Uniform Civil Code in India.

It is desirable to have such code; A country of more than one billion needs such a code of conduct
connecting the various factions and castes & creeds. no harm seen; people should applaud instead of making a big fuss;shouting brcause it is proposed by a different political party is absolutely baseless and pointless; Stalin should shut his mouth on this issue; Fair minded people should come together and strengthen the hands of PM.
Vazhga UCC!
