In the case of, Ramesh Naik v State of Karnataka., the Karnataka High Court directed the State government to submit a minimum of three proposals to the CM regarding the expansion of the High Court building in Bengaluru to build more space in the court. The bench of P.B. Varale (CJ) and Justice M.G.S. Kamal examined the affidavit which was filed by the State and said that one proposal may not be enough to address the issue of the space in the Court.
The Court said that the use of the basement in the High Court as office is contrary to the law. The plea sends directions to the State government to allocate additional space so that we can expand the High Court building. The Court had directed the State to also focus on the issue of courtrooms as well as Judges’ chambers.
The Court underlined the rising number of cases and appointments of Judges which is leading shortage of space. The Court directed the State government to submit proposals to the CM within three weeks and CM should review and make a decision in two weeks after that. The Court accepted the undertaking by the government to take action which was taken to obtain environmental clearance.
