About the Job Opportunity
Applications are invited for 20 vacancies (including 1 anticipated) of Additional District & Sessions Judge in the cadre of the Punjab Superior Judicial Service under the 25% direct recruitment quota from the Bar. The recruitment will be conducted through a competitive examination as per Rule 7(3)(c) of the Punjab Superior Judicial Service Rules, 2007.
Job Responsibilities:
- Adjudicate civil and criminal matters at the Sessions Court level
- Maintain court records and ensure timely delivery of judgments
- Supervise lower judiciary officers and court staff
- Uphold constitutional and legal standards in case disposal
- Engage in policy and procedural reforms within the judiciary
Eligibility & Qualifications:
- Citizenship: Must be an Indian citizen
- Advocacy Experience: Minimum 7 years continuous practice as an Advocate as of the cut-off date
- Income Tax Assessee:
- General category: ₹5 lakhs annual gross income (last 3 years)
- SC/BC/EWS/PwBD (VH) of Punjab: ₹3 lakhs annual gross income
- Case Handling:
- General: Independently conducted at least 50 cases per year (past 3 years)
- SC/BC/EWS/PwBD (VH): At least 40 cases per year
- Language Requirement: Must have passed Matriculation with Punjabi
- Age Limit: 35–45 years as of 31.07.2025
(Relaxable by 5 years for SC/BC/PwBD (VH) candidates of Punjab)
Note: Judicial officers or candidates with mixed legal/judicial experience are not eligible under the direct recruitment route per Supreme Court judgment in Dheeraj Mor v. Hon’ble High Court of Delhi.

- Pay Scale: Level J-5 with initial pay of ₹1,44,840/-
