Loop is expanding its legal function to support its rapid business growth and manage legal risks across its commercial, product, privacy, security, and operational activities.
About the Role
Loop Subscriptions is hiring its first dedicated legal professional as an Associate Legal Counsel. The selected candidate will work directly with the Chief of Staff and will be responsible for managing day-to-day legal matters while building the company’s legal systems, templates, playbooks, and standard operating procedures.
The role requires close collaboration with the Sales, Marketing, Product, Finance, Engineering, Security, and Operations teams to resolve legal issues and reduce business risks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial Contracts
- Draft, review, and negotiate SaaS Master Services Agreements.
- Prepare and negotiate Order Forms, DPAs, NDAs, vendor agreements, partner agreements, and other commercial contracts.
- Maintain and update contract templates and standard clauses.
2. Merchant Negotiations
- Lead issue-based discussions with merchants and their legal counsel.
- Understand commercial concerns and propose workable contractual solutions.
- Explain Loop’s legal position and negotiate appropriate fallbacks.
3. Contract Management
- Maintain contract standards and clause positions.
- Update agreements in response to legal and regulatory developments.
- Improve clarity and consistency across the company’s contract suite.
- Develop legal templates, playbooks, and SOPs.
4. Privacy and Data Protection
- Support compliance with:
- EU GDPR
- UK GDPR
- Applicable US state privacy laws
- Review and align MSAs, DPAs, privacy notices, and incident-response obligations.
- Advise teams on privacy and data-related contractual requirements.
5. Product and Consumer Regulations
- Assess cookie and tracking requirements.
- Review API and data-access terms.
- Advise on subscription, auto-renewal, and cancellation regulations.
- Translate legal findings into practical product and contract actions.
6. Security and Compliance
- Work with Engineering, Security, and Operations teams on:
- PCI DSS responsibilities
- SOC 2 readiness
- Customer security reviews
- Legal evidence required for audits
7. General Legal Advisory
- Support intellectual property protection and licensing.
- Review HR policies and employment documents.
- Prepare employment and consultant agreements.
- Handle routine business contract reviews and legal queries.
8. Legal Operations and Risk Management
- Create legal intake, approval, escalation, and repository processes.
- Develop obligation-tracking SOPs.
- Identify potential legal risks and recommend practical mitigation measures.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external legal counsel where required.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should have:
- A law degree from a recognised institution.
- 2–5 years of relevant legal experience.
- Hands-on experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation.
- Experience in SaaS, technology law, or an in-house legal team is preferred.
- Ability to research multi-jurisdictional legal issues.
- Strong understanding of legal requirements and business preferences.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work with business and technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and sound legal judgment.
- An ownership mindset and willingness to build legal systems from the ground up.
