Prefatory Note

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are crucial for innovation and economic development, particularly in addressing global challenges like poverty alleviation and sustainable development. The US Patent Act protects inventions that contribute to solutions in sectors like affordable housing, healthcare, and agriculture, promoting the development of technologies that improve living conditions for underserved populations. This webinar explores the intersection of IPR and poverty alleviation through the lens of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on the role of IPR in eradicating poverty and achieving SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. Examples from Bangladesh, Mexico, Israel, Singapore, the European Patent Convention, India, Germany, and the German Energy Charter Treaty demonstrate how IPR can drive innovation and attract investment in sectors like water management, clean energy, and agriculture. By showcasing successful examples from around the world, the webinar aims to highlight how IPR not only fosters innovation but also creates sustainable pathways for poverty alleviation and achieving the SDGs.
