“Our position has been broadly appreciated by the international community and finds reflection in the G20 Bali declaration,” Ms Lekhi said.

The minister also informed the House that Kashi has been designated as the first SCO Cultural and Tourist Capital for 2022-23. This would facilitate showcasing of age-old knowledge inheritance, and rich social and cultural heritage, she said.

Talking about the G20, Ms Lekhi noted the prime minister attended the Bali G20 summit recently and thereafter, India assumed its Presidency.

G20 is the premier forum for global economic cooperation, representing around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the worldwide trade, and about two-thirds of the world population, she said.

The G20 is taking place in the larger context of a geopolitical crisis, food and energy insecurity, slow progress on sustainable development goals, mounting debt burden and challenges to climate action and climate justice,” Ms Lekhi said.

“Our endeavour is to build consensus within the G20, champion causes especially of the global south, and shape the setting of the agenda. This will also be an occasion for us to highlight the 3Ds of India — development, democracy and diversity,” the minister said. Noting that India envisages the G20 presidency as an occasion to showcase the country to the world, Ms Lekhi said this will be done through cultural activities, regional festivals, technology programmes, sustainability initiatives, millets promotion, ‘One District One Product’, community engagement and civil society activities.

“Our presidency will witness a Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation), where all of India would not just participate but celebrate this occasion. As the House is aware, the government has briefed leaders of political parties in this regard. We see this as a truly national endeavour and seek the cooperation of everybody to make it a success,” Ms Lekhi said.

G20 or Group of 20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union.

“In 2022 India completes 75 years since Independence. In that special year, India looks forward to welcoming the world to the G-20 Summit! Come to India, the world’s fastest growing large economy! Know India’s rich history and diversity, and experience the warm Indian hospitality,” the prime minister tweeted after making the announcement.

From Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Maharashtra to Qutub archaeological park in Delhi, India will showcase its centuries-old architectural heritage to G20 delegates by hosting excursions and gala dinners at many of the ASI sites, starting mid-December, official sources said.

“Now, an itinerary has been drawn for the events that will take place at some of the very well-known ASI sites from December-March as part of the G20 meetings in India to showcase our cultural and architectural wealth to the delegates. These event will include excursion and gala dinners hosted with a monument in the backdrop,” an official source said.

There are a total of 3,693 heritage sites in India protected under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) that falls within the purview of the Union Ministry of Culture.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, “We have a dream to make the Indian economy a 5 trillion-dollar economy. India is one of the fastest growing economy in the world and there are a lot of opportunities available in India,” the road transport and highways minister said.

Humayun’s Tomb and Purana Quila in Delhi to Modhera Sun Temple in Gujarat, and Konark Sun Temple in Odisha to Sher Shah Suri’s Tomb in Bihar, are in the list of these 100 sites.

“It is a matter of pride for all Indians; it will bring greater glory for all Indians,” PM Modi said. Previously External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the G20 presidency will be celebrated at various places across the country including in Manipur.

This is an opportunity for the government to familiarise India with the world, Jaishankar said while addressing a cultural event at the Manipur capital Imphal.

He event lined up at a centrally-protected site, immediately after the Sherpa meet in Udaipur, is a half-day excursion for delegates to Elephanta Caves in Maharashtra from Dec 12-15, an officials source told.
