
In a move aimed at reinforcing the UK’s immigration system the government has proposed adding India and Georgia to an expanded list of safe state doing so would speed up the process of sending back illegal immigrants from India it will also rule out their chance of seeking asylum in Britian the draft legislation laid in the house of commons earlier this week include india and Georgia as a country to be added to the list.
The UK home officer says the move is aimed at strengthening the country’s immigration system and helping prevent abuse by people making founded protection claims . The home secretary soel braan says expanding the list will allow the UK government to swiftly remove people with no right to be in the
country and send a clear message to illegal immigrants.
The move is in live with measure to meet British prime minister rishy sunak pledge to stop the boats of migrants landing on the country shows illegally. The home officer said that Indian and Georgian small boat arrivals has increased once the last year despite individuals from these countries not being at obvious risk of persecution other countries deemed safe by the UK include Albania and Switzerland as well as the European union and the European economic area states.
A country can only be added to the UK’s safe list non legislative as the section 80AA if the home secretary is satisfied there is no serious risk of persecution of its nationals and that removal of nationals to that country cannot go against the UK’s obligation under the human rights convention the proposal to be add India and Georgia to the list will now undergo parliamentary scrutiny in both house of parliament before it come into force.
The latest measure fall within the illegal migration act 2023 which aims to stop the boats by changing the law .
