Eight Indian veterans have been sentenced to death in Qatar. The Minister of external affairs said that, “We are awaiting the detailed judgment. We are in touch with the family members and legal team and we are exploring all legal options. We will also take up the verdict with Qatar authorities.”
These eight veterans worked at a defense company called the Dahra global technologies. It is owned by the retired squadron leader of Oman’s Air Force. The eight men were arrested on 30th August last year 2022. They were picked up by the state security Bureau which is Qatar spy
agency. The Indian embassy was not told about their arrest. The charges against them have not been made public by the Qatar or Indian authorities.
India has appealed against the death sentence handed down on eight former Indian Navy employees by court in Qatar.
They have been identified as Capt Navtej Singh gill, Idr purendra tiwari, capt saurabh vasisht, Idr Sanjeev gupta, capt birendra Kumar verma,Idr sugumakar pakala, Idr Amit nagpal and sailor ragesh gopakumar.
All of them served at least 20 years with the Indian Navy. According to a report in India media, The men working on a project to build midget submarines with stealth capabilities were accused of spying for Israel.
