The creator of AI, Geoffery Hinton has just quit his position in Google and is condemning the world of AI. He in his interview states that part of him regrets his life work.
Geoffrey Hinton along with his colleagues achieved their quantum leap with the development of Neural Network Programming, this development was the reason why Google was impressed and called him to work along with them. He also received the Turing Award for the improvements brought about through this programming.
However, in the recent past AI has become more of a controversial topic than a boon to the country. Geoffrey Hinton is now a part of the critics, who believe that AI is a dangerous man-made weapon that is a threat to human life. He believes that AI has developed in such a way that complex problems like detecting cancer have become easier, but he also believes that AI will become smarter than people in no time, and that could be disastrous.
Hinton during his interview with the New York Times stated that he believed in the big companies like Google, trying to make the world a better place through the advent of AI, but AI is still subservient to human capacity. Recently though he realized that in performing certain functions technology is way better than humans. “Look at how it was five years ago and how it is now,” he said of AI technology. “Take the difference and propagate it forwards. That’s scary.” The competition among different companies and their collaborations with chatbots is the root cause for this impending risk.
From being the creator to the cynicist of AI, Geoffrey has truly come a long way ahead. He is happy that Google handled the situation very amicably and does not want to give any statement against them. All he states is that there is always a loophole through which the wrong person could commit a disastrous wrong and that should be prevented.
