Volker Türk, United Nation High Commissioner for Human Rights, warned that due to the highly concentrated population of people in Gaza, any further act of moving civilians away from active bombing campaigns will lead to break down of much required infrastructure.

He delivered this at an informal briefing to the states at Geneva. He said that there is a high risk of outbreak of infectious diseases whereas hunger seems inevitable if the current situation continues.

He cited both the statistics of the Gaza Ministry of Health and Israeli Authorities to highlight the disastrous consequences suffered by both the sides due to the conflict and he referred to the current situation as “a human rights and humanitarian crisis”.

According to the most recent reports, Israeli authorities indicate that more than 1200 Israelis have been killed since the conflict broke out on October 7. The Gaza Ministry of Health reports the numbers of Palestinians killed in the fighting is over 11,100. Majority of those who are killed on both sides are civilians.

Turk said that there was a rarely experienced intensity in the Israeli bombardments, ever experienced in this century. He expressed his concerns regarding increasing discrimination in the occupied west bank against the Palestinians. There is a crucial need for an in-depth investigation and accountability for everyone who committed profound and multiple violations of international humanitarian law said Turk, stressing upon international investigation.

He made an effort to persuade the fact that all human lives have equal value and recommended all the states to use their power for humanitarian aid and humanitarian pauses to support the UN Security Council’s Resolution.
