A massive fire at a drug rehabilitation centre in northern Iran has killed atleast 32 people and several injured. 

The cause of fire is not immediately clear according to local news reports, the  investigation showed that a heater in the opium rehab camp in langarud in the  Caspian sea of the fire that spreads to the rest of the centre. 

The provinence s chief justice,said the center manager and several other suspects  have been arrested as a part of the investigation.  The footage of the fire broadcast by ISNA showed it lightening up the night sky  and sending huge plumes if smoke into the air. 

In September a fire broke out at a car battery factory owned by Iran’s defence  ministry for the second time in less than a week,but there were no report of  casualties. 

Background of Iran drug 

The number of people were struggling with addiction in iran has reported risen in  recent years. 

The most common drug in eran is opium,which comes from poppy plant and is  used to make drugs like morphine and heroin. It is the countrys most Popular drug  and iran is a key part of the tracking route from Afghanistan in central Asia , where  it is the largest produced to western Europe . 

Iran’s drug laws have been strict and punitive, the country has the world’s highest  per capital number of opioid addicts. Through it has been cured by drug  treatment, care and prevention which united nations has made successfully.laws 

are still merely tough however and amnesty international said execution for drug  related offences made up two thirds of all execution in iran in the first five month  of 2023. 

In that time only amnesty said atleast 173 people were executed by Iranian  authorities of people are economically disadvantaged background. 

“Amnesty claims iran trials are “systematically unfair “ and call the executions a  “violation of international law”.
