The movie Adipurush- The film, featuring renowned actors such as Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Sanon, was released in theaters on June 16th. Subsequently, numerous individuals have expressed concerns regarding specific dialogues within the movie and the portrayal of iconic characters such as Hanuman and Ravana.
On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court rejected the request for an immediate hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition that sought a ban on the movie Adipurush. The case was presented before the vacation bench comprising Justices Tara Vitasta Ganju and Amit Mahajan. The Court stated that there was no urgency in the matter and it would be taken up for consideration on June 30th.
The Counsel of the petitioner organization, Hindu Sena, informed the Bench that the movie contains numerous controversial scenes that are impacting India’s relations with other nations.
“The movie affects India’s international relations. Even Nepal has banned the film,” the counsel said.
However, the Bench responded that the movie has already been released, and there’s no urgency of the matter.
The present PIL seeking a ban on the film was filed in the Delhi High Court by Vishnu Gupta, the National President of Hindu Sena. According to the petition, the film portrays Hindu deities and characters such as Lord Rama, Sita, Hanuman, and Ravana inaccurately, deviating from the descriptions provided in the epic Ramayana.
The plea further contended that Hindus hold a specific perception of the portrayal of Ram, Sita, and Hanuman, and any alteration or distortion of these depictions by film producers, directors, or actors would infringe upon their fundamental rights. Consequently, the petition demanded that such feature films should not be allowed for public screening until the film producers and directors take corrective measures.
