Friday, the Delhi High Court granted police protection to a same-sex interfaith couple (the petitioners) who were facing threats from one of the petitioners’ family members.
The local beat constable and Station House Officer (SHO) were directed by Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar to provide the couple with their contact information and to respond immediately in the event of a distress call.
The Court additionally expressed that in the event that several takes a rental convenience in the locale of some other police headquarters, the SHO should illuminate the police specialists regarding that region and give their location so they can be conceded security.
Arundhati Katju, an attorney representing the couple, stated that one of the petitioners is a Hindu and the other is a Muslim.
According to Katju, the Hindu girl’s family is making threats to the two, who are over the age of 18 and want to stay together.
She went on to say that the couple and the Muslim girl’s family require protection as well.
As indicated by the solicitors, the Hindu young lady’s family is against their relationship and attempted to wed her to a kid against her desires. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW)
was the only organization that was able to save the girl after she was escorted to Uttar Pradesh by force.
The Muslim girl’s family made claims that she had converted.
According to reports, the couple is currently staying in a Delhi shelter.
