Aesha Mukerji, the estranged wife of Team India opener and Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan, has been ordered to bring their nine-year-old kid to India for a family function by the Family Court in Delhi, noting that a mother alone does not have exclusive rights over a child.

Regarding divorce and child custody, the couple had started legal actions in both Australia and India.

Aesha Mukerji received criticism from Justice Harish Kumar of the Patiala House Courts for raising concern over bringing the child to India. Dhawan’s family hasn’t seen the child since August 2020, according to information provided to the family court.

The family gathering, which had been originally planned on June 17, was moved to July 1 to allow for the child’s summer break. Mukerji disagreed once more, stating that the event would be a failure because several extended family members were not contacted over the new date.

“Even if petitioner presumably did not consult the other members of his extended family, what would be the consequence thereof – at best such get-together would be a flop one as many of his members of the family might not make it to the party but petitioner and his parents will have the joy of having the company of their eye’s apple. Admittedly, the child of the petitioner has not visited India since August 2020 and the parents of the petitioner and other family members have not got a chance to meet the child and petitioner’s desire to have bis child meet with grandparents cannot be said to be unreasonable,”[1] the judge observed.
