The Centre has notified the appointment of new Chief Justices in the High Courts of Allahabad, Chhattisgarh, and Patna. The appointments have been made after receiving recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium. Justice Sanjay Yadav has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, while Justice Prashant Kumar has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Justice Hemant Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
The appointments have been made after the retirement of the previous Chief Justices of these High Courts. Justice Govind Mathur, the previous Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, retired on November 15, 2021. Justice PR Ramachandra Menon, the previous Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, retired on November 2, 2021. Justice Sanjay Karol, the previous Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, retired on August 3, 2021. Justice Sanjay Yadav, who has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, was serving as a Judge in the Madhya Pradesh High Court before his appointment. He has also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in the past.
Justice Prashant Kumar, the new Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, was serving as a Judge in the Karnataka High Court before his appointment. He has also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court in the past. Justice Hemant Gupta, who has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, was serving as a Judge in the Madhya Pradesh High Court before his appointment. He has also served as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in the past.
