In response to a PIL demanding for the RTE Act to be made mandatory in LLB courses, the BCI issued the statement.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that it will consider and decide on a representation demanding that the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education 2009 (RTE Act) be made a compulsory subject for LLB. law schools across the country.

Before a bench consisting of Chief Judge Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, the BCI’s attorney made the remarks.

The bench then resolved a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking the requested remedy after recording the remarks. Via advocates Ashok Agarwal and Kumar Utkarsh, an organisation called Social Jurist filed the petition.

Despite the RTE Act having been in effect for a while, it was claimed that few students, lawyers, or even judges are familiar with its requirements.

The petitioner organisation claimed that although they have presented their case to the BCI and other relevant authorities, no decision has yet been made.

“It is argued that perhaps most of the current inaction on the violation of the right to education is because law students and lawyers are not taught anything about the right to education. In fact, most of them are unaware of the basic principles of rights. enshrined in the RTE Act, 2009,” the statement said
