CPJ : 95 Iranian journalists arrested after Mahsa Amini's death

The Committee to Protect Journalists( CPJ)  blazoned on Monday that Iranian authorities have  enchanted a aggregate of 95  intelligencers since the murder of Mahsa Amini in September 2022, which sparked nationwide protests . Assistance from Tehran Journalists Association . 72 of the 95 people arrested were released on bail .

Mahsa Amini , a 22 – year – old Kurdish woman , was arrested in September for wearing the wrong hijab . She died three days after She was arrested . Iran reacted violently to the next attack , with the New York – based Committee to Protect Journalists recording 41 journalists arrested as of Wednesday . Many were later released on bail . Many are accused of participating in the attacks they preach .

Among the journalists arrested was Vida Rabbani , a prominent Iranian women’s rights activist , who was detained and denied the right to practice journalism . Front Line Defenders ( FLD ) said she is now facing a four – year prison sentence for ” conspiracy against national security ” .

This includes Mohammed Zare Fumani , publisher of the local Iranian newspaper Sedaye Eslahat . Newspapers covered the nationwide protests following Amini’s death , and Zare – Fumani commented on his protests on his Instagram . In the  videotape, he detailed how Iranian authorities allowed him to make calls before being placed in  sole  immurement.  

But CPJ and other  intelligencer  birthrights groups remain concerned about people behind bars,  involving  journalists in Tehran’s Evin captivity. 

Commenting on the arrest , CPJ Middle East and North Africa correspondent Sheif Mansour said , ” The authorities must allow members of the media to do their job without fear of arrest and imprisonment . “

We’re deeply concerned for the  fate of Evin’s associates and remind the Iran authorities that they’re responsible for the lives of  intelligencers in captivity,” IFJ Secretary General Anthony Berenger  spoke.

” More than 1,000 protesters , human rights defenders , civil society workers , journalists , schools and students have been arrested and detained since September , ” Human Rights Watch and dozens of other human rights groups said on Monday . Iran’s reaction is harsh .

The UN human rights official said the protests and reports of arrests and killings were dangerous , said Iran must stop the unnecessary and unjustified use of force against the protesters , the Human Rights Office said , and immediately released all the people arrested .
