The Delhi High Court after discharging filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri on Monday in a contempt of court said that the dignity of the court does not depend on the opinion of the people or what people think and say about the judiciary rather it depends on the duties that get discharged.
Chief justice Ranjan Gogoi in a contempt said that the dignity of our system does not come from that people say and have to say. Courts does not punish the victims for our dignity, it is our duty. Our dignity comes from the work we perform, the duties we perform, how we secure and follow the rules and regulations.
Before, the Bench of Justice Mridul and Justice Vikas Mahajan, Agnihotri was presented. He reiterated his guilt and said that the act was no intended to offend the judiciary or judicial system. He is very respectful towards our majesty of our judiciary.
So, basically judiciary is the third most important organ of the Indian government. The other two organs are Legislative and Executive. Their function is basically to make and implement the laws. Whenever the judiciary passes any judgement it is binding on all and every citizen and members of the government.
It also resolves disputes and conflicts which may arise between the citizens and state, state government and central government etc. judiciary is the backbone of the country and also the guardian of the human rights, promotes peace and harmony among the people, and maintain the decorum of the country.
It checks and balances the legislative or executive actions of the Government.
The court said the case or the matter kept pending just to make it clear that such act cannot be done irresponsibly.
The judge also observed that:-
“Lawyers say something about us every time they leave the courtroom. If we were to start prosecuting you for that, there will never be any end to it”.
