Making International Law Relevant: Promises and Challenges for India is the conference’s theme. The conference notes that public discourse and legal practise in India generally do not place a high priority on international law. With critical, introspective, and well-researched papers that highlight the importance of international law to the Indian context, the conference seeks to challenge this status quo.
When it comes to tribunals, international organizations, or its interactions with other States and international actors (as is most obviously the case in the Khulbushan Jadhav case or India’s attempt to win a permanent seat at the Security Council), the submissions may show how international law may become a platform for the Indian State to advance its strategic interests. Similar to how India can align its domestic practises and policies towards conformity with international law to suit strategic goals, such as preventing repetitions of litigation similar to that in the Vodafone case, submissions could also tackle this topic.
In conclusion, contributions should not only discuss the law but also provide strong policy justifications for the relevance or usefulness of treating international law seriously.
MEETING FORMAT
A hybrid format will be used for the conference. The events must be physically attended by the participants on the Jindal Global Law School (“JGLS”) grounds in Sonipat. Online participation will still be an option for students who are unable to participate in person to maintain accessibility. Both JGLS students and outside students will be represented on the student panels for the paper presentations. External participants must be undergraduate students and may be from Indian or international universities. Participants will take part in seminars with eminent figures in the field of international law in addition to panel presentations where all students will gain from collaborative discussion and networking. The conference activities will only be attended by authors whose works made the shortlist.
PAPER GOALS AND RECOGNITION
A 100–200-word abstract must be submitted on this form by all writers. Selected candidates will be required to submit a 2,000–2,500 word paper after the abstracts are shortlisted. The
