During a recent hearing of a constitution bench, Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, cautioned lawyers and litigants about a fake website of the Supreme Court that has been doing the rounds. He advised them to be extremely careful while carrying out monetary transactions online and to avoid clicking on fraudulent websites. The Chief Justice’s warning comes because the fake website bears a striking resemblance to the official website of the Supreme Court and can easily deceive unsuspecting individuals.
Chandrachud further emphasized the importance of being vigilant and urged everyone to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately. The fraudulent website, which has been created to scam people, can cause significant financial loss if proper precautions are not taken. The Chief Justice’s warning is particularly significant given that the hearing was related to Article 370, which has been a subject of much debate and controversy in India recently.
Lawyers and litigants must exercise caution while conducting monetary transactions online and ensure that they are using only the official website of the Supreme Court for any such purpose. By being vigilant and taking necessary precautions, individuals can prevent themselves from falling victim to such fraudulent activities.
The Supreme Court has issued a public alert regarding a fake website falsely claiming to be the official Supreme Court website, which has been created for phishing attacks. The Court strongly advises the public not to click on or share links they receive without first verifying their authenticity. The Supreme Court emphasizes that it does not seek any personal, financial or confidential information from individuals.
According to the public notice released by the Registry of the Supreme Court of India, a phishing attack has been detected, and a fake website impersonating the official website has been created and hosted on the following URLs: http://cbins/scigv.com and https://cbins.scigv.com/offence.
It has come to our attention that scammers are using the URL https://cbins.scigv.com/offence to trick people into sharing their personal and confidential information under the pretence of “Offence of Money-Laundering”. We strongly advise you to refrain from sharing any such information as the perpetrators could use it to steal your data. To avoid falling victim to this scam, please exercise caution by not clicking or sharing any links before verifying their authenticity. Also, please note that the domain name www.sci.gov.in is registered with the Supreme Court of India. We recommend that you always hover over a link to confirm its authenticity before clicking on it.
If you have fallen prey to the recent phishing attack, it is recommended that you take immediate action to protect your online security. It is highly advisable to change the passwords of all your online accounts as a precautionary measure. Additionally, it is important to contact your bank or credit card company to report any unauthorized access to your accounts.
The Registry of the Supreme Court of India has taken serious note of this phishing attack and has already alerted the concerned law enforcement agencies for a thorough investigation. The authorities are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible. This notice is issued in the interest of public safety, and we urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
