In the suo moto case of the election of Awadh bar association the Allahabad high court comprising the bench of justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and justice Dinesh Kumar Singh said that indulgence of advocates in unruly behavior is reflected poorly on the institution’s image. The bench cancelled the whole election which held in so much chaos and fixed the date of elections to September 25.

The suo moto case was taken by the Allahabad high court on august 16, when the Awadh bar association elections were scheduled to august 14.

The court called senior registrars to provide a report regarding the unlawful activities and security measures taken up by them for the incident which happened in the court premises.

It was observed by the court in the report that- there were several misconduct and unfair methods used by the candidates and their supporters during the election and several advocates misbehaved with ladies and senior advocates.

The court added that the advocates have the responsibility of keeping the system of law & order pure but in this incident it didn’t went so well and for this reason the court issued several guidelines for conducting further elections such as-

– implementation of ‘one bar one vote’ system by the U.P. bar council.

– name of members who have cast their votes in the previous 3 years should be uploaded on the website and same is to be done by the other bar association.

– formulation of ‘code of conduct’

– methods of bribing must be prohibited in any form and if anyone tries to do so then that person may be debarred from the association.

The court also mentioned several mandatory conditions for the members of Awadh bar association to participate in the elections.
