In order to facilitate public access to information regarding the supreme court, a bench presided over by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud stated that the highest court has also established a platform for RTI applications.
All twenty-five of the country’s High Courts were mandated by the Supreme Court on Monday to create online portals for handling Right to Information Act (RTI Act) requests.
Registrar generals of High Courts were also instructed to get guidance from their respective Chief Justices about the development of similar portals for district judiciary by a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices PS Narasimha, and JB Pardiwala.
The bench said that the exercise should be carried out by all of the high courts in the nation no later than three months after the date of this decision.
“The National Informatics Center’s resources may be used for this by the high courts at their discretion. The NIC will offer the high courts the necessary logistical and technological support in this area “declared the bench.
The top court mentioned that 18 States had submitted their reply during the hearing on Monday. The Court further stated that only a small number of High Courts had online RTI websites.
“Some High Courts have waited 17 years to operationalize the websites for this purpose. Websites for RTI have been developed by the high courts of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Orissa. The State gov. site is used by Karnataka “According to the Court’s ruling.
Thus, it instructed the other High Courts to construct their own RTI portals in a similar way.
