If you are looking for an answer on whether or not you should drop a year for CLAT preparation, you need to first be clear of the syllabus that you will have to go through in order to bag a seat in top NLUs.
The syllabus for CLAT is pretty simple and includes English Language, Current Affairs, including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. This exam does not test your ability to retain knowledge but to apply it to practical situations. Except for general knowledge no other part of the paper needs you to mug things up.
Securing good marks in CLAT to cross the cut-offs requires you to go through modules sincerely, making a habit of reading newspapers & magazines daily and solving at least one mock test a day. Following this practice for three to four months religiously will land you in a comfortable zone of the rank list.
Now, if you are considering taking a drop for preparation, there are certain questions that you have to give honest answers for.
- Whether you have attempted CLAT and did not obtain enough marks to cross the cut-offs?
- Whether you are willing to dedicate 365 days to prepare the same five areas of question and to repeat the entire process over and over again?
- Whether you will be able to maintain the same level of confidence and vigor while preparing for CLAT, without getting stressed and bored?
