The Law Commission of India is a premier legal advisory body under the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, tasked with legal reform and recommending changes in laws to promote justice. It engages in high-level legal research, policy development, and legislative drafting, and collaborates with academic and policy institutions in India and abroad.

About the Job Opportunity

The Law Commission of India has launched a Voluntary Internship Scheme effective 1st July 2025, offering law students a chance to work closely with legal research and policy development projects. Interns will gain practical exposure to legislative drafting, legal research, and law reform initiatives. The internship is unpaid and does not confer any right to future employment.

Job Responsibilities:

Interns may be assigned to:

  • Conduct legal research on legislation and judicial decisions
  • Assist in drafting research papers and consultation documents
  • Compile case laws, literature reviews, and comparative legal materials
  • Participate in seminars, discussions, and workshops
  • Support Members, Chairperson, or Research Officers in ongoing legal studies
  • Submit a short research paper or digital presentation at the end of the internship

Eligibility & Qualifications:

  • Students who have completed:
    • At least 2 years of a 5-year law degree, or
    • 1 year of a 3-year law degree
  • Enrolled in a recognized law college/university
  • Can apply only once per financial year
